Lottery Process & Policies

The Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is a state authorized, tuition free, public charter school whose mission is strongly connected to the acquisition of American Sign Language. The ASLA follows all statutory requirements regarding lottery processes with regard to race, color, national origin, creed, sex, ethnicity, behavior, language proficiency, disability, or academic achievement.

State Approved Waiver & Selection Process

The ASLA gives lottery preference to siblings and children of current staff per Charter School statutory requirements. Additionally, the ASLA is granted waiver authority to give preferential lottery selection to students who are deaf/hard of hearing or need American Sign Language as a primary receptive or expressive language. Official documentation is required to verify this status. Please note that enrollment availability is determined by the number of openings in each cohort and grade year to year.

The ASLA operates under the same special education standards as required by the New Mexico Public Education Department. Please be prepared to provide all requested documents, including the IEP, upon being selected through lottery.
